Standard BNQ 2501-258
Determination of Water-Density Relation - Vibrating Hammer Test
The BNQ 2501-258 standard specifies a test method used to determine the relation between the water content and the dry density of soils and soil-aggregate mixes when they are compacted in a mould by a vibrating electric hammer. The standard applies to cohesionless soils and to the fraction of soil able to pass through a 40 mm sieve. It sets out requirements regarding six main elements:
- apparatus (mould, vibrating hammer, tamper, sample extractor, scale, oven, straight edge, sieve, linear measuring instrument, timer and mixing tools);
- preparing the sample (sampling and preparing with and without initial drying);
- procedure;
- calculating and expressing the results water-density relation (diagram, maximum dry density and optimal water content);
- test report.
